EAAZ programs include 5-6 courses per semester, unless stated otherwise.
Our programs have been divided into "full-time college", "part-time college", and "non-college" tracks. Full-time college tracks can lead to a complete Associates degree upon graduation if taken all four years.
Time estimates include ALL course work ("homework" included)
Students should schedule at least the estimated amount of time to work on their courses. Some student will be able to finish quicker than estimated, and that's great! Flexibility is one of the major perks of online schools! As students get more familiar with online classes, they will learn how to be efficient in their work. Some students may need more time than estimated. Evaluate your educational goals and personal abilities wisely when making a program decision.
For reference: The average public high school requires about 30 hours in person, and 15 -20 hours of homework weekly.
All Students start with ASU Universal Learner Courses. These course are available as 8 week courses, and a few of them are available for as full-semester courses. These ULC courses allow students to choose whether or not to include their final grade on their college transcript. (Learn More) After completing 8-12 Universal Learner courses, students will switch to community college classes. Students may choose to continue online through our college partner EAC or go in-person to the community college nearest to their home.
3 College Level Courses
AND
2 HS Level Online Classes (or LSA Coaching program)
Estimated Time: 8-11 hrs/day, 40-55 hrs/week
Middle School Info For High School Only Tracks
The "Full-Time College Track" is technically available to middle school students. Middle school students wanting to do this high school program must submit a request for exception, including a letter explaining why they feel ready for the program.
Students will take one less "non-college" class per semester to keep the middle school tuition price. Removing one class also reduces the estimated time commitment by 5 hrs/week.
The Accelerated College track is our Bachelor's Program. It is an intensive program with only college level courses. Students seeking this track must be highly focused and self motivated. This track is 100% online, with no in-person community college options. Students on the Accelerated track for all four years can plan to earn their Bachelors' degree at the end of their Senior year. We currently offer 3 bachelor's degree options: Business Administration, Computer Science, and Health Science. Bachelor's Programs are made available through The University of the People, a 100% online accredited university. Read the sections below for additional track information and details for each year of the program.
During the first year of the accelerated program, students will take ASU Universal Learner Courses (ULC) to get started. These courses give students the ability to choose whether or not they want to include the final course grade on their permanent transcript. (Students switching from another Track who have already completed 8-12 ULC courses will skip this section and move on to the Year-2 program)
5 ASU Universal Learner Courses (4 "8-week" courses and 1 full-semester course per semester)
Estimated Time: 10-14 hrs/day, 50-70 hrs/week
After completing the first year of the accelerated program, students will transfer to Eastern Arizona College (EAC), our community college online partner. During Year-2, students will take 5 classes per semester online from EAC. Most of these classes will be degree focused, with some electives dispersed. Community college class grades always show up on permanent transcripts. Be thoughtful in making the decision to participate in this program. Students must complete their Associate's degree before moving on to Year-3 of the program.
5 Community College Courses per semester (All full-semester length)
Estimated Time: 10-14 hrs/day, 50-70 hrs/week
After completing their Associate's degree, students on the Accelerated College Track will transfer to The University of the People, a 100% online accredited university. This school is year-round and has 5 terms per year. (9 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off) Students may choose to take 2 or 3 courses per term. Taking 3 courses is the standard option and fits the regular school schedule much closer. Students who choose to take 3 courses per term may work full-time through all 5 terms and finish early if they choose, but our graduation schedule encourages the following:
Term-1 : 3 courses (begins first week of Sept.)
Term-2: 1 course (dates are over the holiday season)
Term-3: 3 courses
Term-4: 3 courses (ends first week of June)
Students who choose to take only 2 courses per term must commit to working through the summer and other major school breaks. UoPeople terms do not align with regularly scheduled breaks. Instead, they will have 1-2 weeks off between each term.
Also during Years 3/4, students will be connected with a personal mentor/coach from the Leadership Society of Arizona (LSA). These mentors are PhD graduates from ASU, and are focused on personal empowerment for the student. Mentors help students to set and achieve goals, and make plans for their future. They will also help by providing assistance on resumes and job applications when needed and working with parents to support each student. Learn more HERE. (Students will have face-to-face coaching calls every 2 weeks instead of every week as listed on the website.)
3 UoPeople Courses per 9-week term (9 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off.)
Estimated Time: 10-14 hrs/day, 50-70 hrs/week
OR
2 UoPeople Courses per 9-week term (9 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off.)
Estimated Time: 7-10 hrs/day, 35-50 hrs/week
Holiday term (2nd week of Nov. - 2nd week of Jan.) for students on the standard grad schedule:
1 UoPeople Course per 9-week term
Estimated Time: 3-5 hrs/day, 15-25 hrs/week
(Holiday term work could be completed in just 2 days per week, 8-12 hrs/day)
This is a less-intensive option for students who still want to earn a lot of college credit. Similar to the full-time college credit programs, students start by taking ASU Universal Learner courses. After completing 8-12 Universal Learner courses, students can switch to community college classes online or in-person. Students on the 'single college course track' can also switch to this track at the beginning of any semester.
2 College Level Courses
AND
2-3 MS/HS Level Classes (2 for MS/3 for HS)
Estimated Time for Middle School: 6-8 hrs/day, 30-40 hrs/week
Estimated Time for High School: 7-9 hrs/day, 35-45 hrs/week
All students earning college credit start with ASU Universal Learner courses. This track option allows students to take semester-long ASU courses (they are usually 8-weeks). After completing the few courses available at this pace, students transfer to community college, or switch to one of the higher level college tracks.
1 College Level Course

3-4 MS/HS Level Classes (3 for MS/4 for HS)
MS Estimated Time: 5-7 hrs/day, 25-35 hrs/week

As of Fall 2022, all Arizona students, K-12, are eligible to receive state education funding through an Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA). This funding is intended to give parents the freedom to decide exactly how their child will be educated. ESA funding can be used for private school tuition, specialized curriculum, home education, tutoring, and more. At Empowerment Academy, we commit to keeping the cost of all of our programs at or below the universal ESA amount. By doing this, we open our doors to any student who wishes to be empowered, without costing families a penny out of pocket! On top of all that, depending on the program you choose, we are able to turn around and use some of your tuition to pay for extracurricular activities and camps, without requiring those providers to register with the state to accept ESA payments. Look through our programs to find one that fits you and your family, and contact us today!
We want every student to have an education plan that helps them to grow and feel empowered. Each program is flexible, and we want to work with parents and students to create a personalized education plan for each student. Together, we can hand-pick a curriculum to help your student find success! View details about curriculum options HERE.
